Dr. Gang Zhang studied chemistry at Jilin University, Changchun, China where he received a PhD degree in Polymer Chemistry and Physics in 2003 with Prof. Jiacong Shen and Prof. Bai Yang. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPIKG), Potsdam, Germany from 2003 to 2006. After a postdoctoral fellow, he joined the state key laboratory of supramolecular structure and materials in 2007 and got the title of professor in 2008.

The research focuses on colloidal particles with unusual geometric and chemical symmetries, and their interface assembly; ordered micro- and nanostructure with defined dimensions, complexities, and functions.
