Introduction

The State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structure and Materials is promoted from the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education with the same name and is permitted to construct in the Summer of 2007. The previous Key Laboratory, originally named as Key Laboratory for Molecular Structure and Molecular Spectroscopy, was established from the Structure Chemistry Laboratory of the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry, Jilin University, by Professor Au-chin Tang, and opened to domestic and abroad scholars in January, 1991. Later, in 1993, Professor Jiacong Shen was appointed to the director of the Laboratory and thereafter the research area and the administration were largely rectified. From 1997 to 2004, Prof. Jiacong Shen became the chairman of the academic committee, and Prof. Xi Zhang was the head of the Laboratory. From 2004 to 2015, Prof. Bai Yang was appointed the director. At present, Professor Junqi Sun is the SKLSSM director, and Professor Xue Duan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is the Academic Committee chair.

Research Fields:
Supramolecular chemistry is the chemistry related to intermolecular interaction and molecular assemblies. In crossing and inosculating with materials science, biology and other scientific subjects, supramolecular chemistry has been developed to supramolecular science and is thought to be the sources of the new concepts and high technology in twenty-first century. The features of the unborn supramolecular system should be the unifications of communication and programmed controlling, fluidity and reversibility, assembling and structure multifariousness. Considering the current progress of this area, after the agreement of the academic committee, our research goals are mainly anchored on the newly developed and crossed discipline with the keystones on the following: (1). Supramolecular assembling and its dynamics; (2). Supramolecular structure and photo-/electro- functional materials; (3). Biosupramolecular assemblies; (4). Spectroscopy and simulation of supramolecular assemblies.
Facilities and working conditions
There are many advanced instruments in the laboratory such as 500 MHz NMR spectrometer, high powered X-ray single crystal diffractometer, scanning probe microscopy, scanning electronic microscope, single molecule force spectroscopy instrument, laser confocal microscopic Raman, FT-Raman and FT-IR spectrometers, laser confocal fluorescent microscope, Brewster angle microscope and laser ellipsometer, LB trough, UV-Vis spectrometers, stable state and time-reserved fluorescent spectrophotometers, differential scanning calorimeter, high vacuum evaporation chamber , multisource vacuum chamber , ion lithography instrument, organometallic evaporation instrument, anhydrous and non-oxygen operation box , electrochemical station, Serius2 graphic software and computer station, protein layer chromatography , horizontal electrophoresis and so on. We moved into the new building in January, 2004. Right now, we occupy half of a building in South campus of Jilin University.
Training for outstanding young scholars
The laboratory stands on two national key disciplines, polymer chemistry and physics and physical chemistry, and has become the base for MSc, Ph.D and Post Doctorate fellows.
Faculty
There are, at present, 75 members in the laboratory, including 60 senior researchers (among them 2 academicians of CAS), 10 technical staff members and 4 managerial personnel. In the past few years, two faculties were engaged the , four were conferred National Outstanding Youth Fund, two faculties were selected into Personnel of "Hundred-thousand-tenthousand Engineering of Ministry, seven were rewarded" Outstanding Crossing(New)-Century Scholars. In addition, one was awarded Outstanding Young Scholar Prize, one was awarded 2nd Sino-Korea Youth Academic Prize, one obtained Baogang Outstanding Teacher Special-Prize.
International cooperation
We established close relationship with Prof. H. Fuchs' and Dr. Lifeng Chi’s group from Muenster University, Prof. H. Moehwald from Max-Plank-Institute of Colloid and Interface in Germany; Prof. Y. Ozaki's group from Kwansei-Gakuin University and Prof. T. Kunitake's group from RIKEN in Japan, Prof. G. Vancoso's group from Twente University in Netherland; Prof. JungIl Jing's group from Korea University in Korea; Prof. James Lewis’s group from West Virginia in U.S.A. We exchange graduate students, visit each other's laboratory, and co-apply international cooperation projects. By now, we have already made a lot of important fruits. In order to enhance the exchange and cooperation, extend the influence of our laboratory, bring up persons with ability, we have held a series of important conferences, including Functional Supramolecular System Workshop, Xiangshan International Conference on Supramolecular System and Bilateral Symposiums. Meanwhile, we also organized series domestic academic conferences during the past several years.
Research Characteristic in the Laboratory
The laboratory concentrates its research interest on supramolecular structure and materials, the frontier area of multidiscipline intersection and undertake a set of state research projects such as Major State Basic Research Development Program (973), High Technology Program (863), Key Project of NSFC,Innovative Research Team in University, and Programme of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities (111 Project). We set our own characteristic and have made much achievement on layered assembling of polymer, composition and assembling of organic-inorganic hybrids, the construction of artificial enzyme based on molecular recognition, design and synthesis of organic/polymer electroluminescent materials, single molecular force and molecular assembly relative spectroscopy. These results make our laboratory become the base of supramolecular research area and specialized young scholars.
