Abstract:

Natural macromolecules have the extraordinary ability to self-assemble into well-defined nanostructures in a controlled fashion in all dimensions, a phenomenon in which cooperative forces play a major role. In our group, we have exploited several strategies for the construction of well-defined cooperative self-assembled structures based on co-assembly processes, hydrophobic interactions, metal-metal bonding, unconventional CH∙∙∙X hydrogen bonding and metal complexes with tetrahedral coordination geometry. The application of these concepts in drug delivery systems is currently underway.
