In 2004, he obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the College of Chemistry, Jilin University, and began working there in the same year. In 2006, he went to the group of Prof. Eugene Y-X. Chen at Colorado State University for postdoctoral research. In 2009, he worked in the Department of Chemistry at Colorado State University as a Research Scientist II. In 2013, he was selected for the National "Young Thousand Talents Plan" and was appointed as a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Jilin University. In 2014, he received the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scientists from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2022, he was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. In recent years, he has published over 100 SCI papers as a corresponding author, including: 1 in Nat. Chem.; 1 in Chem; 2 in J. Am. Chem. Soc.; 8 in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.; 2 in Nat. Commun.; 3 in CCS Chem.; 2 in Sci. Bull.; 2 in ACS Catal.; 2 in Chem. Sci.; among others. He also holds more than 20 patents.

Precision polymerization catalyzed by Lewis pair catalysts; catalytic synthesis of polymers from renewable resources (sustainable polymer synthesis via catalysis); synthesis of high-performance polyester and polyacrylate thermoplastic elastomers and their applications in tissue engineering; degradation of non-food biomass and polymers, among other research areas.
