报告摘要:
Chemistry is experiencing a paradigm shift to embrace functions emerging from complexity such as nanostructured materials, interfaces, etc. In this talk, I will take a brief look back at my personal journey from clusters to nanomaterials and to clean energy, witnessing how the field has advanced tremendously. Time permitting, I will highlight some of our recent results in designing, assembling and interfacing different solution-processed nanomaterials for efficient solar energy conversion, and in understanding the underlying processes. One of the current challenges in engineering energy conversion devices is to understand the form-function relationship in nanostructured systems, akin to the bonding-property relationship in molecular systems but at a higher level.
报告人简介:
Shihe Yang received his B.S. in Chemistry from Sun Yat-Sen University in China and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1988 (with the Nobel Laureate Prof. Richard E. Smalley). He did post-doctoral research at Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Toronto (with the Nobel Laureate Prof. John C. Polanyi) before joining the faculty at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he is currently a full professor. His research interests include chemistry and physics of finite systems, clusters, nanomaterials, and energy conversion. He and co-workers made contributions to the understanding and development of cluster science, fullerenes/metallofullerenes, novel nanomaterials chemistry, new generation solar cells, solar fuels, and other energy conversion devices. His current interest is focused on solar energy nanoscience and nanotechnology. He is the author/co-author of over 460 international journal publications and ~8 patents with ~ 17,000 citations (h-index > 71). His scientific research has been recognized by, among others, the State Natural Science Awards for the past consecutive two years. He is currently an editorial board member of several international journals including ChemNanoMat (VCH-Wiley), Sustainable Energy (Hans Publishers), International Journal of Nanotechnology (Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.), etc.
