报告摘要:

The field of polyoxometalates [1], a class of metal-oxide based neutral or anionic or cationic clusters, in recent times, has entered a new arena ‘soft’-supramolecular interactions, crossing the molecular regime of covalent bonds. The structures resulting from such ‘soft’-supramolecular interactions in solution are also much larger (of the order of few tens to hundreds of nanometers in diameter) and show soft-matter properties (like scattering, shear under soft forces, etc.) and are proposed to be called ‘soft’ oxometalates. [2] Few case studies of such soft-oxometalates will be shown and discussed in detail. For instance, using ultralow concentration an interesting phenomenonlogy has been recently observed where simple phosphomolybdate Keggin type oxometalates show spontaneous and intriguing structure formation, like those of peapods. [3] In solution at ultralow concentration with a rather large metal oxide based (molecular) system another interesting dynamic of defect structure formation unfolds. [4] However for the purpose of application an ability to direct structure formation in mesoscopic length scales, is needed. This problem can be circumvented by a method of ‘colloidal casting’. [5,6] All these aspects will be discussed with relevant examples to demonstrate structure formation and dynamics and applications with oxometalates in mesoscopic regime [7-9]. The potential application of these systems in micro-optomechanics will also be discussed.
